The new dash shifter knob is an interesting change for the 2013 Ram.
Every once in a while, something new hits the car industry that really surprises us. For the crew here at Briggs Auto, that innovation was the announcement of a new shift knob for the 2013 Ram truck. Replacing the traditional lever, the shift knob will be located on the dash of the truck and allow the driver to easily shift gears just by turning a knob. This new feature will be a big change for Ram trucks in Kansas, and for the owners of the trucks. At Briggs Auto, we are always impressed with the new features on our Ram truck lineup, but this is one that might need to grow on truck users.

One reason for the new knob, as explained by Chrysler, is that the new Ram truck has eight speeds, and it “makes more sense than taking up lots of space to give a lever room to move through the extra positions that are useful on an eight-speed.” The question that has to be answered is, will traditional truck buyers be into the new shifter or be clamoring to keep things the same? In the spirit of progress, we’re thinking that the truck owners that aren’t already on board will come around.
Just the fact that the new Ram trucks in Kansas will have eight speeds should be enough to bring some consumers over, since the new truck will be very good on fuel mileage with the new transmission. And with the incorporation of the new shifter, the 2013 Ram could be one of the most interesting trucks we’ve seen in a long time.
