When it comes to taking care of your automobile, there are a ton of different things you have to take care of on a regular basis. One of the most obvious things is getting your oil changed, but there are numerous other ones that will come up, especially the longer you own your vehicle. One of the most frequently asked service questions we get here at Briggs Auto is customers wondering exactly how they can tell when they need to get a new set of tires. Tires are a crucial part of your vehicle, and waiting too long to replace them can have all sorts of consequences. Check out the video below to learn how you can figure this out for yourself!

Book Your Service Appointment Today!

Classic Penny Trick

As Service Manager Pat Costello mentions in the video, you can always come into any of our Briggs Auto service departments throughout Kansas and we’d be happy to check your tires out for you. Any trick or rule of thumb is a generalization, unique circumstances might be hidden from plain sight or even make your tricks invalid, so if you have the time and are worried, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment and bring your vehicle in.

That said, there is a classic method to use as a rule of thumb when trying to figure out if your vehicle needs new tires, and it’s called the penny trick. Simply grab a penny and insert it into the tread with Lincoln’s head facing outward. If you do this and ol’ Honest Abe’s forehead is visible, then that means your tire tread has been worn out to a point that it’s time to replace them.

Check the Wear Indicator

Even simpler than this trick, a lot of tires feature actual wear indicators built right into them. You can check out the wear indicator and if your tire tread has become even with the indicator, then it’s time for some new tires.

If you’ve been shopping for a car this year, there’s a good chance you’ve noticed that a lot of dealership lots have been empty or featuring a very reduced amount of available vehicles compared to years prior. This is all stemming from the global pandemic that we’ve been going through over the past couple of years, but hopefully things will begin turning around in the near future. Keep reading to learn the specifics of why there aren’t as many new cars available as there used to be.

Why aren’t there as many new vehicles available?

First of all, the automotive industry isn’t the only one to be affected by what we’re about to touch on, as other major sectors such as consumer electronics and power have been hit hard as well. The root cause of there being fewer new vehicles available is a result of a global chip shortage affecting automotive manufacturers and, as mentioned, many other areas across the country and globe.

These chips help manufacturers build their vehicles and provide them with the technology that they’re supposed to have, so a shortage of chips means they can’t build as many vehicles as quickly as they used to. But don’t worry, there has been a slow and steady shift by some manufacturers away from the old model of building a bunch of vehicles to ship to dealerships and towards having those dealers or their customers directly order the models they want specifically.

This way, manufacturers know they’re building vehicles that have already been paid for and will almost certainly make it to a consumer rather than risk some models sitting around on the lot without being sold. You can read more about the process of ordering a new vehicle to your specifications in an earlier blog from this month, but feel free to reach out to us with any questions that you might have!

If you’ve looked around at any of the Briggs Auto dealerships’ websites, including right here on BriggsAuto.com, then you’re probably aware of the fact that we have an absolute abundance of used vehicles available to shoppers throughout our areas of Kansas. Even though our selection is one of the biggest around, it can still be difficult to find the exact vehicle that you want. That’s why our staff put together the video below, to help you find the vehicle that’s right for you!

Find Your Used Vehicle Today!

What is a Used Car Locate?

Here at Briggs Auto, you can take advantage of our Used Car Locate. While this isn’t an online feature, if there is something specific you’re looking for, you can get in touch with any of our sales staff – in particular, Barry Martin, the gentlemen in the video, would be a great person to contact – to find the vehicle that you want. If you’re looking for a specific color or set of features, or anything else to suit your needs, we can help you track it down.

Some customers might be afraid to take advantage of this for one reason – what happens if we track down the car for them, go through the process of bringing it in, and then they end up not liking it? Don’t worry, because we absolutely do not want to sell you a car that you don’t like! If we get the vehicle in and it isn’t exactly what you were looking for, we wouldn’t and won’t expect you to purchase it. We can always try again.

The moral of the story is, don’t be afraid to reach out to our sales staff. If you’re looking for something in particular and you don’t see it in stock, just reach out and let us know what you’d like. We’d be happy to help locate it for you and bring you in for a test drive to see if it’s really the right vehicle for you. Feel free to give us a call at any of our dealerships with any questions that you might have.
